Classes run Monday through Friday evening, from 5:30-8:30pm and Saturday from 9:30am to 2:30pm at our school downtown. Practice teaching begins the second week and is scheduled from the afternoons to the early evenings two or three days a week. Practice teaching can be on or off campus. Typically students take advantage of CSE's extensive resources for lesson preparation in the afternoons and evenings.
Admissions Requirements:
International Students
All international students whose native language AND secondary and/or post secondary education background are not English must meet the English Proficiency requirement, regardless of degree field.
The following are acceptable as proof of English Proficiency:
TOEFL score of 550/213/80 or above
TOEIC score of 693 or above
IELTS score of 6.5 or above
MELAB score of 80 or above
International candidates who cannot submit any of the above qualifications may meet the English Proficiency requirement in either of two alternative ways:
1. By taking CSE’s in-house Michigan Language Examination and scoring the following:
A 3+ or better on the speaking assessment portion of the test. (A candidate with lower score is considered under-qualified and may not continue.)
and an 80 or above overall score on the remaining portions of the test.
2. By completing the Intensive English & TESL/TEFL combination course and passing CSE’s in house Michigan Language Examination with the minimum passing scores listed above in item 1.
To qualify for this option international students must provide the following minimum scores:
TOEFL 480/157/54
TOEIC 600
IELTS 4.5
MELAB 65
CSE in house Michigan 65
- International students can take one to three weeks of intensive English study (20 hours a week) prior to the start of each course.
- Upon completion of the Intensive English study component candidates may retake the in house Michigan Examination and try to requalify.
- International students who have the above minimum scores and feel they need more English preparation may take even more weeks of intensive English study before retesting. This option may mean that a candidate will have to wait until the following course date to ensure completion of the Intensive English study and passing one of the qualifying tests with the minimum score.
