Jason & Sarah
Owners & Directors
We have been working in Education for over twenty years. Jason has a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Northern Arizona University and has completed Master's level coursework in TESL from St. Cloud State University. Sarah has a BA in Business Administration and an MA in Multicultural and Transnational Literature. We both have experience teaching in the U.S. in private programs and at community colleges and we also taught at a university in South Korea for six years. We love being at CSE and interacting with international students on a daily basis.
I grew up north of Boulder on a 5-acre farm and got my B.A. in International Affairs from CU Boulder. I have lived in the U.S., Germany, France, Colombia, and Ecuador in the last decade both for my studies and for work. Before starting at CSE, I worked as an ESL teacher for many years so I am always happy to step into the classroom as a substitute when needed. I love spending every day at work helping our students achieve their goals and using the languages I speak (Spanish, German, & French). Learning another language opens new doors and provides a fresh perspective on the world so I am honored to support people on this life changing journey!
Student Services Coordinator
As a travel enthusiast, aspiring linguist, and supreme nerd of all things international and intercultural, I am very happy to be working for CSE. I grew up in the Mountains of Colorado before going to Colorado State University where I studied international studies and industrial/organizational psychology. I also studied and then worked in China as an English teacher for a few years where I got to visit many places around south east Asia. I am now back in my beautiful home state of Colorado, and thrilled to be helping international students during their adventures in the States. You will find me at the front desk (most likely with coffee in hand), happy to swap stories and chat about your experiences.
I'm a traveler and language lover from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since earning my Master's degree in Teaching English, I've taught in four countries: U.S.A, Panama, Chile, and Japan. Once I decided to come back to the U.S., I knew I wanted to come to Colorado to enjoy all of its beauty and be around nice people. Teaching English is what I love to do, and I learn so much from my students about their languages and cultures. I love reading about languages, anthropology, and cognitive science. My goal is to make learning any part of English (even the really confusing grammar) enjoyable and useful to my students. When I'm not teaching, you'll find me cooking, hiking, watching sports, or playing my bass guitar.
I grew up near San Francisco and studied English Literature in Los Angeles. After that, I joined the Peace Corps. They sent me to a small town in Ukraine where I taught English to students of all ages. After a few years working in the U.S., I felt like I wanted to go abroad again. I thought I would just go for a year, little did I know that decision would considerably change my life. I fell in love with teaching and one year turned into ten away from home. I received a teaching certificate and spent the last five and a half years teaching some of the best high school students in Korea. I've lived in three countries and five states and now feel so lucky to have found a home in Denver at the Colorado School of English.
I was born to an Irish American father and Russian mother in Moscow, Russia. I have a JD in International and Civil Law as well as a TEFL Certificate. Throughout my life I’ve lived, studied, and worked in Russia, United States, Spain, and Malta. I possess an extroverted personality and am passionate about teaching English, which I've been doing for over 10 years. I actively use a communicative approach giving students, regardless of their age, an engaging opportunity to gain a command of English. Being a bilingual speaker has given me a unique perspective to some subtle and hidden nuances of the English language which I love to share! There’s nothing more rewarding than sharing knowledge with others and meeting people from all over the world. Teaching enables me to make a difference in someone's life which goes far beyond knowledge.
Education has always been a huge part of my life and I have acquired several professional certificates, including a Bachelor’s degree in Design & Management and a Master’s degree in Communication Studies.
After years working in Fundraising and Investor Relations, I have found my happy place teaching English with a focus on clear and impactful communications.
I have lived and worked in Italy, Hong Kong, Colombia and India. I can’t wait to continue visiting the countries where my students come from.
When I’m not teaching you can find me dancing, crafting, perusing books at local bookstores, or doing research for my investment club.
My ESL journey started when I spent a year and a half of backpacking around the world. In 2009, I moved to Germany and continued teaching ESL. I began lecturing at Stuttgart University, which led me to teach mainly within the higher education sector. Later, I moved to Shanghai, China where I exclusively taught at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics for four years. Then we relocated to Michigan and my instruction expanded from ESL to college composition classes for American students. I have continued teaching ESL here in Colorado at Red Rocks Community College and at Colorado School of English! I have learned both German and Mandarin, so I understand the challenges and rewards of learning other languages and can relate to my students not only in language learning but also in living in a different culture.
